69th Post.....The Cream comes to the Top....

Congratulations to Nigel on his fine win in the inaugural Singles Matchplay of the B.B.C. in these Covid Times.  He managed a two game victory over Jimmy on Sat. 21st. He is now the holder of the Singles and Doubles Matchplay Trophies. Some achievement!  Many would love to been present but the restrictions wouldn't allow.  However a few attended for the presentations to mark the occasion. Ciaran presenting Nigel with his voucher for 'Verbena', a local business.  His trophy is in the post! Jimmy congratulating Nigel on his victory, testimony to the spirit in which all the games were played. Jimmy had defeated Tom B. in the first semi-final. Nigel defeated Ciaran in the second semi-final. Tom B. presented Ciaran with a 'designer planter' for his family, by way of thanks from all the players for his amazing work on the Matchplay App. which permitted continuous play across the past month. 68th Post.....Its a Knockout......

  Singles Matchplay Report: We're at the knockout end of the Singles Matchplay now.  This is how the pairings fared. Ciaran beat Shay Tom beat Michael Jimmy beat Charlie Nigel beat Garry The semi-finals, to be played next week, feature Tom B v Jimmy and Ciaran v Nigel.  Please check the weather forecast and book as soon as possible as the timesheet is filling up.  You will have priority and other players will have to give way for your preferred slot.  The final will be on Sat. or Sun next, whichever suits the finalists. For the final, if spectators wish to arrive in time for the presentation please mask-up and socially distance. The booking sheet has been working well for the competition contestants and the casual players alike. Group A, B and C are using the booking sheet now, also.  Remember to text your desired slot to me at 0874115145 and if it is still available it will be allocated to you.  Make your pair up off-line, if possible. You will notice that Friday is not included

67th Post....Seconds Out!

 The pool stages of the very successful Singles Matchplay are now complete.  Thanks to Ciaran's expertise sixty pool matches were completed in a fortnight using his computer skills. Thirty players were allocated to six groups of five, each players playing the other group members to allow for a greater amount of play before the knockout stages. Below is the complete pool stage bracket providing the six pool winners and two best runners-up to complete the quarter finals: The following image outlines the top end of the table: The following image shows the quarter final bracket to be played over the next week or so: The committee met last Sunday and the decisions are outlined below: Sunday:                 08-11-20                at Boules Pistes Present:                TD, ED, AG, CG, CoD, CW Decisions: ·          Try to finish off the successful Singles Matchplay by the end of next week 15-11-20. Mon., Tues., Wed. for Quarter Finals        Thurs., Fri for Semi-finals.       

66th Post.....Hallow - Weeners....

Our thanks again to Ciaran for the the very efficient organisation of our Singles Matchplay 'Covid' Competition.   In Group 4 Tom Buckley has completed his pool games and topped the group.  All the other groups have outstanding fixtures.   By the end of this week all pool games will be played and  the two best runners-up will be identified to move into the quarter-finals. So efficient has the organisation been that the entire competition may be completed within three weeks! As you can see we've increased the timeframe for each match to two hours, as many tightly-contested games were taking well above the previously allocated  hour and a half.  The shorter period meant there was an 'uncomfortable' overlap  between games.   Everyone is keeping their distance; wearing their masks; using their own equipment  and generally protecting each other in 'Our Plan for Living'.
