59th Post...Welcome to Group B.....

Image
Between  the Covid-19 shadow and the unexpected turn in the weather we had reduced numbers this morning in the absence of Competition.  Ten players played in the 10 a.m. slot.  We're expecting a few more umbrellas to be delivered soon and they'll be welcome. ' Masks wearing' and 'Social Distancing' remained the order of the day.  When we finished at 11.30 the newly-formed Group B arrived to play.  Their start-up was slightly delayed by the weather and the Matchplay Draw.  We welcomed Evelyn Clinton, Marie Doherty, Denis Breheny, Joan Maher and Pat Durcan   Deirdre Thompson sent her apologies.  Larry, Agnes and James played alongside the newcomers and introduced them to play.  Our thanks to them.  Barbara and Kevin will join them on their return. Sixteen is the magic number after which we will be looking to start Group C.  Ciaran arrived to make the Matchplay Draw in the height of the rainstorm and outlined some rules:     Knockout competition.     5 Euro entry

Alden Park is getting a facelift....the paths are being restored to their original width.  The council operatives arrived with all the relevant gear this morning and despite the atrocious forecast they managed to completely clear one path and started on the second one.  Not too much to report on the boules front as we have stalled the competition while we are in Phase 3 restrictions.  We are playing at our normal times with masks, social distancing and restricted numbers. Ciaran is in the process of organising our first Matchplay Competition.  He is seeking names and creating pairings where necessary.  The knockout competition will be played mainly in casual times with the best of three games deciding the winners.  A small fee will cover a prize and a voucher to support a local business.  We'll keep you posted. Ciaran and Tom met with the Principal, Ms Lynch, and Sports Post Holder, Ms Reddin, in Bayside SNS today after school. They are happy to be included in the timetable being c

What a beautiful morning!  Half way through our second competition and Ciaran is still in 'pole position' with thirteen 13s already! Charlie's Bronze Boules have catapulted him into Bronze Position ! Larry had a very productive morning amassing a maximum 36 points.  The scoring averages column is interesting with Chris's average of 11.55 and Gerry on 11.42 both slightly ahead of Ciaran, at present.  We wish the two Gerry's well on their paths to recovery. I forgot to take photos while in the heat of battle so I took a couple of shots of the 11.30 a.m. group who were playing after us.  Chris, Tommy and John played singles for an hour and a half. We are in the throes of creating a second group.  I've changed the WhatApp group titles to Bayside Group A and Bayside Group B to be followed hopefully by Bayside Group C in the future. The idea is to try to create pods of 16 which are Covid compliant but also allow us have no more than four players on each piste which

56th Post ..... The tables never lie...

Despite the inclement forecast we were spared rain and had a lovely morning's play.  We had fifteen on board so everyone played 3 boules each with the three players on Piste D playing singles. As you can see Ciaran has added extra detail into the table including scoring averages.  Gerry and Tom managed the top score of the day.  Gerry and Charlie are currently on the same score.  Ciaran has managed 11 thirteens in the five weeks thus far. With the Covid restrictions and the increasing interest from other parties the original organising group are to meet after play next Wednesday at noon to discuss a few matters: the outcome of the recent meeting with Cllr Hopkins. how to manage and timetable the increasing numbers. a proposal for an additional Matchplay Competition. what format to use with different numbers of players. opportunity to liaise with the Senior School to permit outdoor P.E. activity and grow the sport.
