44th Post.....None but the Brave...

Thanks again to Ciaran for the updated table. Twelve players braved the elements for the 9.30 start.  It definitely wasn't summer but we warmed to the task.  We drew 'damp' cards, wet from Saturdays abandoned session, to commence.  It was windy and cool but the competition was 'hot'.   Agnes and Tom D managed to complete a clean sweep with a max. score of 39 for the permitted three games.  The lead is changing hands regularly which is good.  We only count the scores gained over three or less games.  Anybody managing to start a fourth game won't accrue any score for the competition in that 4th game.  The two other games were very competitive. What a difference the rain has made.... The parched park of a couple of weeks ago.  Not quite the 'Emerald Aisle'!!! We even watered the saplings to help them survive the drought. No matter how you looks at it Charlie.......! Notice everybody's summery attire...... Still socially distancing..... Agnes about to la

Charlie has been eased off top spot [ temporarily!! ] by Ciaran, but very little separates the top four. The top five have played six sessions thus far.  After discussion today we formalised that there will be 12 play days in each Competition Period.  At least eight players need to be playing to make it a Competition day.  Less than eight players on the Monday mean it won't count as a competition day. We are just halfway through this Competition today. SOME PERTINENT RULES:  Article 14,  Rules to apply if the jack is dead  : If, during an end, the  jack  is dead, one of three cases can apply:  1) Both teams have boules to play, the end is void and the jack is thrown by the team that scored the points in the previous end or who won the toss.  2) Only one team has boules left to play, this team scores as many points as boules that remain to be played. 3) The two teams have no more boules in hand, the end is void and the jack is thrown by the team

What a beautiful morning!  Thirteen players for Week 5 of the competition.  Ciaran has collated the scores, as follows: Charlie is holding his lead on 126 after 5 games. with Ciaran, Sean and Chris in hot pursuit. As you can see we're continuing to practice our 'Social Distancing' while still enjoying the games. We draw the cards after 9.20 a.m. so players can be on the pistes ready to play at 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. the accumulated score in the time frame is your aim, so if one game is below par you can always make amends in the next game....if you're opponents allow!  You finish the end you're playing when the time is up. Where possible we will play in groups of 4.  If the numbers don't allow that, then we will try to avoid three players playing singles as it is the slowest form of play. However, any player arriving after play has started, will, if it's a rare occurrence, be accommodated but players need to be willing to have a new player join the group wh

We're back playing Competition again.  Place for 16 [ 4 x 4 ] .  Fourteen played today.  Beautiful morning.  Week Four today,  as we played three rounds before the outbreak.  As many were playing in Competition for the first time we decided that this session will have best 8 of 12 to count in the 12 week period. Ciaran has updated the spreadsheet to take account of the changes.  We're very grateful and appreciative of the work he's doing on the score sheet. Ciaran, also, went to the bother of marking the sides of each pistes to identify the  6 m. to 10 m. required distance for the landing area of the Jack for competition. Ciaran distance marking the side boards. After a chat we decided to keep the 9.30 start and finish at 11 a.m. for the next while.  After we reach 16 players additional names will have to go into the next time-slot.  In the photo below notice the deliberate social distancing.  Keep it going.  Move your boules to the side of the piste with
