78th Post. Sunshine Sunday and the other stuff!!

The weather has finally picked up. We went from this:................. ......................................................................To this in the space of a few days. Today Sunday the 30th May 2021 Sean played twice and fared very well in both games.  Most of us take to the bed after a game but not our intrepid Sean.  He braved the opposition, the weather and the audience to keep his nerve for two victories.  My thanks to Nigel and Ciaran for the extra photos. It has come to our attention that some of our younger players are throwing caution to the wind and will stoop [unlike the rest of us!] to any means of distraction! Ciaran sent over the Timesheet and the League Tables for inclusion in the blog after the first month.  Many players have played more than half their fixtures since it was so efficiently organised and everyone embraced the technology.  A few have almost all their games played and a couple just starting out. We hope to have the top four in each group identifie

Charlie and John braving the elements at 9.00 a.m. on Friday morning.! Play is continuing at pace in the singles competition.  The two months allocation is beginning to seem generous but  some players campaigns have yet to start.  Health permitting we hope all players will be underway this week.  Also, we're glad we allocated the full two hours per match as some close games are taking the full time allocation. The WhatsApp group text is proving a wonderful mechanism for entering fixtures and results allowing Ciaran to update his records for Group 1 and Group 2.  See below. While a few players are managing to score freely, most are managing to take a game here and there, even off the most able players.  It is noticeable that the standard of play has risen since we started Boules in late 2019 and Michael, who also plays in Bushy Park, will attest to that.  While not many players are 'shooting' the accuracy of throws is improving. Players are coming to watch games and applau

Ciaran has kindly provided me with the Results to date for Group 1 and Group 2.  You can check developments here and check who you still have to play.  The WhatsApp site is working very well with fixtures being arranged off site and being sent in for slot allocation.  When a slot is already taken you are informed and can rearrange.  The prompt relay of results in the short form is working well also.  Try to keep this App free for match details only.  Use the Groups Apps for humorous texts etc. You can see the table below with the Group stats to date.  As in all Competitions there are winners and losers but, as far as I can see, defeats and victories are being accepted graciously. 59 of 210 matches are complete at close of play today so we're ahead of schedule. 27 of 30 players have paid the fee so far, thank you to those that have. The trophy research has started! Some photos from our Singles Competition.  It is running very efficiently thanks to the players and especially for Ciar

Today saw the tentative restart of play for the Bayside Boules Community.   We are starting a Singles Competition for a two month period involving players from Group A, Group B and Group C. Players were invited to put their names forward if they were confident enough, after their preliminary vaccinations, to counter the Coronavirus that has plagued us for over a year. We received an amazing 36 names and Ciaran has been establishing Groups, Fixtures and Scoring spreadsheets to accommodate the interest level.  He has created a dedicated WhatsApp Group for the Competition through which the competitors can organise fixtures and return scores.  He has put in the equivalent of two days work in creating the play systems.  Our grateful thanks.   There are two groups of 18 players each to play every other player in the group.  The top 4 players from each group will contest the final stages.  In the event of players on the same points score, at the end of the league phase, the scoring average
