Bayside Boules Club - Alden Park - since late 2019

  Group A Monday Competition restarted in frosty conditions that became more balmy as the morning progressed.  We are continuing with the successful  40 min. changeovers with redraws each time.  We had thirteen today making 2 x 4, 1 x 3 and 1 x 2.  Everything went smoothly and for today we accommodated Shay who didn't realise we were starting our Group Competition.   All Groups will be included in the Matchplay Competitions when they restart.  The Committee are due to meet this weekend.  If you have any ideas for discussion please text them to Tom 0874115145 before Friday 21st January. Drainage: The new drainage system worked wonderfully when severely tested on Christmas Day.  When previously the four pistes would have been waterlogged for at least a day they were playable within the hour after the torrential rain. Welcome back Brian: It was wonderful to see Brian back with Rose playing casually against Barbara and Kevin.

Congratulations to Rose and James  ...on their wonderful victory in the Doubles Matchplay Competition. They were deserved winners of a hard fought competition, especially over the doughty competitors Agnes and John, in the final.  They never lost their nerve despite having their early lead hauled back to level at one stage. [These couple of photos at the presentation ceremony are courtesy of Ciaran].  James who is always praising everyone else was almost speechless but, when composed, he thanked his most able partner, Rose, and his coach, Sean J! Our thoughts are with Rose's husband, Brian, who would love to have been part of the special occasion.  We'll see him in the New Year DV. Rose and James, the Victors.   The Matchplay Competition is nearing completion.  The games are being keenly contested and watched by increasingly large audiences.  The one-game knockout stages are proving to be a knockout!   One pair, Joan and Charlie , have reached the semi-finals.  The quarter-final pairings after play today are:   Shay Coyne / Maureen Deane  v  James Rowland / Rose McDonnell Larry Breheny /  Marie Doherty  v  Ciaran Walsh  / Gerty Gilbert John O'Connor  /  Agnes Graham  v  Jimmy Quill  /  Noel Kelly Keep checking the Matchplay App and try to attend, if your free.  The crack is mighty....except for the players!!  Some people have small wagers on some of these pairings but let that not influence proceedings!  Thanks Ciaran for the Bracket and work behind the scenes.
