153rd. Post: April showers didn't deter......
Tom Walsh Trophy:
Pat Ryan is the latest name on the main club trophy. Congratulations Pat on your elevated position after a relatively short period playing Pétanque. I wasn't there to record the presentation, unfortunately. When I get a chance I'll get a photo of Pat with the trophy. The previous three winners inscriptions were added at the same time.
New Scoring System:
Our 'new' scoring system is bedding in better now on both the Monday and Saturday Competition Days.
Very few errors are being made which make life incredibly easier for Ciarán when entering data.

Some Competitions Photos from April:
[Sharyon + Dirk ] and [Irene + Michael] ably represented BBC at the PPC Mixed Doubles event in mid-April. Considering Sharyon and Irene are relatively new to the game it was a great adventure in a very competitive atmosphere.
Also, The BBC have seven potential teams for the IPA National Mixed Doubles to be held in St. Anne's Park and Alden Park in early June. Our pairings will play together in the games versus Bath and they will play each other over the enext while to establish a rank order in case the IPA tell us we can't enter all seven teams.
Our teams are [in no particular order]: Eileen D and Gerry L; Agnes G and Larry B; Yvonne R and Michael D; Mary G and Chris G, Maureen D and Pat R; Patricia C and Hamed S; Irene G and Dirk S.
IPA Singles Finals:
The IPA Singles Finals are being held in Alden Park, Bayside on Sunday 17th May. We will need some volunteers to help sort out the venue, in advance. I'll request assistance nearer the date. Thanks in advance. I'll advertise the event in local media to generate some interest / audience.
Maintenance on pistes:
Our thanks to the many members who make themselves available for the variety of jobs to keep the play area looking well across the year. From Sharyon, doing the flowers to James, painting the surrounds and many more besides. The following photos show the range of works being undertaking by the various crew members from widening and weeding paths, putting in some edging, mowing and strimming, painting surrounds and spreading grit on the pistes etc.
Two BBC teams entered for the IPA National Triples held in Frankfield, Cork on Saturday 18th April.
[A] Irene, Dirk, Tom D.......[B] Maureen, Yvonne, Terry
braved the day trip and the opposition and gave a good account of ourselves on two varied surfaces against many of the teams who were using this event as training for the upcoming Celtic Challenge event at this venue, in early May. Team A played in the final of the second tier competition losing out to a team who will represent Ireland in the CC tournament shortly.
A long but enjoyable and educational day.....travel courtesy of Irish Rail.
The students continue to enjoy the exposure to the game. This year, the time/day changed and different groups sampled the game. Without our volunteer members it wouldn't be possible to facilitate the programme. Our thanks to them. There are a couple more outings before their holidays. We may have a wrap up event on Sunday 24th from 2pm, if they are interested with a prize of a set of Boules.
Tuesday and Friday Evenings:
Shooting practice is ongoing on Tuesday evenings and Ciarán's Friday Evening Social Boules has recommenced for the summer, weather permitting. We hope to see members old and new at these enjoyable soirées.
Somehow Boules at Eventide has a special dynamic that is difficult to replicate in the mornings!! Photos pending.....
Visit of the City of Bath Pétanque Club:
We are due to welcome our first International Team - City of Bath Pétanque Club next Thursday 7th May as part of their five match tour of the island.
They have 14 members travelling and we tried and succeeded to max out our BBC numbers at 28+, allowing us to have two teams. Having this number of players available and willing to play is a milestone for our club. The format will be organised with the BBC players playing twice and CoBPC playing all the games. Four timed games with a mix of Doubles and Triples to facilitate the 14 players on our six pistes is the aim.
Our members will contribute €5 each to partially cover the cost of providing refreshments for our visitors, mainly. There may be some sandwiches for BBC members also, but the visitors have priority. A designated member will collect the BBC contributions on the night. Also, please wear the BBC gear if you have it.
We will need a crew to set up from 3.30 pm - Gazebos, IPA banner and flyflags, scoreboards, tea/coffee/sandwiches, rakers, meet and greeters etc. Gertie has negotiated the use of the school toilet - many thanks, Gertie.
Weather forecast looks ok.....they will probably arrive after 4 pm to introduce themselves, familiarise themselves with the pistes and organise the format of play with us.
As with BBC tradition we don't have medals/trophies but we present our visitors with colourful, local, craft beer packs.
