140th Post: Feb 2025 - Spring is in the Air
Women in Sport:
Along with other Councils across Ireland, Fingal Co. Co. have asked that clubs engage with ladies to introduce a variety of activities that might interest them. We plan to have an introductory Boules event on Sun March 9th from 2pm, for any interested parties. The following poster has gone out on our connected social media and if you know of some lady who might be interested .... do ask them. We'll supply the trial boules and we hope some of our lady members can come along and mentor / play alongside any newcomers on the day. One for the diary!
Gearing up:
In order to have groups representing the BBC, home or away, having some uniformity of clothing we have been active on your behalf. We've been checking colours, pricing, variety etc. and we are close to a decision. By April gear should be available for sale........below are some of the inputs from committee among many others.
Play continues for BBC most days of the week:
With Fridays now catering to the TY students only Sunday remains BBC-free any week, for now! Photographic proof from various dates across February......
Belated presentation to Larry:
Larry was on hand to receive his well-earned, much-Covided Tom Walsh Memorial trophy on Monday 24th Feb. Well done, Larry.
Transition Year - St Fintan's
The Transition Year students have started their introduction to Pétanque / Boules on Friday afternoons accompanied by a member of their staff. We have a group of volunteers willing to support the venture. Their TY coordinator is delighted with the connection and a new group will start in a fortnight's time. Owing to GDPR rules I'm not in a position to photograph them in action but they are quick learners and enjoying the opportunity. Separately, the school is involved in the Senior Schools Rugby Cup Semi-Final soon which is a great achievement for a non-private school.

Maintenance around Pistes:
Many thanks to Jim, James, Seán, Mary G, Ciarán, Mairéad, Agnes and Tom for attending to ongoing maintenance around the pistes. March 1st was the final day for hedge/briar clearance and we managed to clear the school side. Tom and Ciarán removed storm fells that were being used to dig on the pistes and occasional graffiti on the tables. The new Letters on the pistes will hopefully make identification easier for visitors. We will be preservative-treating the timbers when they dry out a bit more.
