119th Post ... Much water under the bridge since the last post and a deluge to come....

Apologies for the delay in post this blog.  I was away but by all accounts not missed, which is how it should be!!

Singles Matchplay Finals:

Congratulations firstly to Ciaran for the very successful Singles Matchplay.  Approx. 40 players entered the competition from our 50+ player body. Despite a couple of minor glitches it proves to be a great event bringing the players and others together and allowing us to get to know each other better.

Ciaran, astutely, organised qualifier rounds before creating the four tiers for the knockout phases.  With the exception of the Tier 1 final, for which a trophy is awarded, all the tiers had  prizes of equal value for the winner and runner-up.  Thanks again Ciaran.

Many of the matches had an audience which related to the fact that the App allowed the players to see the fixtures in advance and the results afterwards.

Here are the tiers and finalists:

Tier 1 Final was contested by Chris Grehan and Denis Breheny.  Denis pipped Chris in the third set of a well contested final.  Congratulations Denis.

Tier 2 Final was contested by Dirk Jurgen Stark and Tom Donnellan with Tom managing to come away with the win.

Tier 3 Final was between Ann Wilson and Gerry Lloyd.  Gerry was the victor on this occasion.

Tier 4 Final was won by Noel Kelly from a gallant Marie Doherty.

Group A Monday Singles Competition:  Position prior to Monday 15th May

We're getting to the business end of the competition and it is all to play for.  Ciaran give us an entertaining update before each Monday.

We have upcoming events to look forward to:

  • Friday night Social Boules from 7pm already underway.

  • Tom and Eileen are playing in the IPA Mixed Doubles in Bushy Park this Saturday 20th May!

  • Doubles Matchplay Event TBD shortly.

  • Bastille Day Event in alden Park on the weekend of 15/16 July.

  • Mike Deegan Trophy event in St. Anne's Park Friday 28th July. [ Nigel and Tom ]

  • Visit to Cavan / Belturbet on invitation for Sunday 20th August.

  • Match with Malahide Boules on evening of Tuesday 5th September.

N.B.  Bayside School Boules:

Using an Age and Opportunity grant from last year, 2022, we purchased a complete set of gear for the senior classes of Bayside Primary school to introduce the game to a younger audience.

The P.E. co-ordinator from the school or a representative will hopefully join us for a formal hand-over of the gear shortly [ perhaps this Friday evening 19th May before Social play, if it can be organised ]

Depending on the uptake by the school and the perhaps their seasonal usage of the facility we will allow them slots in term time.  Should they not take up the slots they will revert back to B.B.C. use.  We will not be playing concurrently with a school slot.  Early days....much to be sorted yet.  Provisional timetable below.
