117th Post: Matchplay Madness

Group A Monday Competition:

And another league is done. Chris' consistently excellent form wins the day as he's crowned Singles Champion for the second time.

He did it in style, too, with eighteen 13s to boot. Congratulations Chris!

It was a tight competition with Joan and Sean just three points back and the top six all grouped within eight points.

Joan had an impressive debut edging second place from Sean on the number of  13s scored.  Kudos to Sean on a serious title defence effort.

The Tom Walsh Trophy will be presented to Chris in the next week or so.

Pic. from start of new competition today.  Reminder that the second day of competition play will be held on Easter Monday.

Matchplay:

The Singles Matchplay is progressing well.  With forty players we are a fortnight away from the end of the group stages on or before 14th April.

The number of game being played is increasing as the deadline approaches.  Contact Ciaran or Tom if you are experiencing difficulty organising or contacting an opponent.

Here is the table to date.  Joan Maher is continuing to master the conditions and her opponents!  Well done Joan.

Remember after the group stage we will be tiered into four groups for the separate knockout competitions, each of which have a prize on offer, courtesy of your entry fees.

Bushy Park.  -  IPA Singles Finals

Went to check out the standard of play at the Singles finals.  Some of the Mauritian-born players were away but the competition was good, nonetheless.

We would not be beaten 13 - 0 and our pointing would be on par with many of them.  Being willing/able to shoot, occasionally, is the difference.

The best 'shooter' on view is a youngish French lad, Kevin Meniel, who would come over to us and give shooting tips.  Those attending could put a few bob together to cover his expenses.  Let us know what ye think???

Reminder:  Trip to Cavan Petanque Club, Belturbet on Sat. August 19th.

We could do a day trip as 'senior citizens' on either the Train to Drumod, and a minibus to Belturbet, or just direct bus to Belturbet, day-return.

It is do-able on a day if people didn't want to stay over.  Alternatively some could drive down and either stay over or not.  One for the diary, if interested.  More later.
