114th Post. Out of the Traps in early 2023

Defibrillator points in the Bayside Area.

This information is accurate as of today.  Note: the external device has yet to be installed at the Community Centre.  Hopefully by the end of February 2023.  The Bayside Community Association have part-funded the proposed installation and on-going maintenance.

Belated Group A Monday Singles Competition:

Tom Buckley presented Sean Jenkins with the engraved Tom Walsh Memorial Trophy.  The recent engravings were

2021: Ciaran Walsh x 2.

2022:  Michael Dolan, Chris Grehan, Tom Buckley, Sean Jenkins.

Presentations to Ciaran Walsh:

By way of appreciation to Ciaran for all his work on behalf of BBC Charlie presented Ciaran with a voucher for a local restaurant from Group A.  Group B will present their half of the present tomorrow morning at their session.

Group B presentation to Ciaran from Frank on Tuesday Morning.
We will be setting Group B up with a trolley and scoreboards etc. from Thursday.  Covid 19 prevented us from doing so earlier and they had all made their own scoreboards etc. It will be stored at the same location and accessible by a designated few from the group.

Bayside supporting Malahide boules:

Following on from December last we invited a few from the new Malahide boules group to join us last Wednesday at Alden Park.  Despite the freezing conditions Aubrey and Anne from Malahide joined us to learn how we operate here.  We hope to offer the same facility this coming Wednesday where we will support them before they set out themselves. Items discussed as they played with us were the basic rules, equipment, equipment storage, team formations, maintenance of pistes, timetabling, types of competitions etc.

Group B braving the elements:

Last Tuesday 17th January, despite the near freezing temperatures, Group B dressed for the conditions  and had a most enjoyable session in bright sunshine.  I was going to cancel Wednesday play until they convinced me otherwise!!

Annual Fee:

Our thanks to all the players for contributing to the 10 Euro fee to cover any minor works in 2023 and the gifts for Ciaran for his support work in 2022.
Any competitions in 2023 that require prizes to be purchased will accrue a small fee for each event.

Group A Monday 23-01-2023:

The improvement in the weather brought 15 players to the pistes this morning.  We have 20 players on the books so 5 were absent this morning.  A very enjoyable mornings play in the milder conditions. Both Larry and Yvonne made a creditworthy 36 out of a max of 39.  All those thirteens will be important at the end of Q1 Competition.

The Irish Petanque Association AGM is on in mid-February.

Anyone from the BBC who would like to to become an individual member of the IPA please contact any of these  committee members -  Tom D, Ciaran, or Michael D for  further information  Last year individual membership was 40 Euro.  Tom D., Ciaran and Michael D are individual members.  However, there are also occasional Open competitions that can be entered for a small fee.

Belturbet Invitation:

We have an invitation to Belturbet, a newly opened Boules Arena, in Cavan for August.  We will look for expressions of interest when we have more details.
