92nd Post... September Sunburst

Costa del Bayside.

Another bout of spectacular September weather saw the boules pistes being well trodden over the course of the week. There were confirmed sightings of boulies most mornings... twelve on Monday, ten on Tuesday, four on Wednesday, nine on Thursday and five on Saturday! Everyone is clearly enjoying themselves and long may it continue.

Group A League Competition

Two more Group A players entered the competition fray on Monday. Larry & Tommy both scored well and got their respective bids for glory off to good starts. The new format is working well and players are moving between games with the minimum of fuss. Of course, there is lots of chat and banter where time allows! Speaking of which, we had two surprisingly early finishes in one match from Game 1 and another from Game 2. This will happen from time to time if one team manages to steamroll another. Most games are only just finishing or not quite getting over the line so we hope we're getting the balance right.

Sean has jumped to the top of the leaderboard this week after posting an excellent weekly total. It could have been oh so different had Gerry & Ciaran closed out the final game of the day when Sean & Larry were trailing 11-3. The final score of 12-11 in that game and the resultant impact on the leaderboard show that it's not only about winning your games in this competition - limiting opponent scores is equally valuable.

Sean is 9 points clear of Agnes and Ciaran in joint second place and can now 'size up' (hehe!) those trailing in his wake.

Assorted photos from Monday's play:

Agnes on final approach.

Gerry: LBW! Sorry, I mean we're holding.

Looks like Tom B was on the money.

It's a jungle out there, Tommy!

Charlie - a model of concentration.

Open Sessions

Casual play is continuing Tuesdays at 11am, Wednesdays at 10am and Thursdays at 11am. A reminder these are now open sessions and anyone in BBC can come along to join in. In general, Group B make up the bulk of Tues/Thurs play and a small cohort of Group A play on Wed. It may be casual but it's definitely competitive so do join in if you're free.

Group B are a colourful bunch!

Synchronised ends = happy photographer!

Nobody zoom in on the scoreboard!

Mirth abounds on piste C.

Terrible boules or a moved coch? :)

Pétanque Pals!

It's wonderful to see boules continue to go from strength to strength in the locality. Some players from Donaghmede Men's Shed used to be seen regularly on our pistes but are no doubt delighted with the new facility that's a little closer to home. The attached flyer was spotted on Facebook during the week. We wish them the best and in time, might be able to orgainise friendly games.
