83rd Post ... All Hail King Ciaran!

Ciaran.  Our worthy Singles Matchplay Champion July 2021

The weather Gods held fire until the final of our Singles Matchplay Competition was complete.

Ciaran played Denis in the two-game final after beating Tom B and Sean J, respectively in their semi finals.

Denis and Ciaran just prior to play in their final.

A large gathering of players came to the Pistes to view proceedings and they were not disappointed with a great variety of shots and tactical play on view.  Ciaran won the fixture in two games despite Denis's valiant efforts though both were worthy contenders for the trophy.

Nigel, the previous winner of the Singles Competition presented the winners trophy to Ciaran.

The rain threatened to disrupt play but thankfully it held off until after the presentations.  Our thanks to Fingal Co. Co. for the provision of the umbrellas that came in handy today!

The spectators were enthralled by the quality of play and appreciated the pressure on the players.

Tom D presented Ciaran with a separate token of appreciation for his outstanding work in the organisation of the entire Competition.  It ran smoothly and despite it's complexity it was visible and easily accessible to all.

Agnes presented Tom D with a token of appreciation for his work on behalf of the BBC.
Both Ciaran and Tom gratefully accepted the gifts and mentioned that they were delighted to work for such appreciative people but we didn't really expect such measures of gratitude after each event.  Our thanks nonetheless for the thoughtful gifts.
Tom D noted that some players had to drop our for a variety of reasons from the Competition.  Brian, Nigel and James may very well have been in contention.  Hopefully all will be able to resume play in the near future.

Tom noted that the next Group Play will start on Monday July 12th. after a break of a week. During this week players can play casually and at some point, to be advised,  we will have a 'Training Event' where the Committee members who met with Owen Kelleher from the I.P.A. can disseminate his views on playing the game.

The Event for the French National Holiday [ Bastille Day ] will happen from 11 a.m. on Wednesday 14th July.  The Fun Event will be slightly low key with players bringing their own boules and snacks but not sharing them on account of the Covid restrictions.  Players wear masks, if they wish, as some are not doubly vaccinated.  Please wear some hint of French Apparel in spirit with the occasion....but don't lose the head altogether!

Tom B was previously defeated by Ciaran in his closely fought in a tense, three-game, semi-final.

Denis overcame Sean in their semi-final game.  Sean barely lost the first game and succumbed in the second.

It is hoped that the eight quarter finalists will represent BBC in a 'friendly' fixture against a Michael D organised team from Bushy Park in the near future.  Who knows where that will lead?

Ciaran has agreed to run a Doubles Matchplay Competition in a few weeks time similar to the competition just finished.  The final rankings from this recent competition will aid the formation of doubles pairings for the new competition.

The most interested spectators of all today!
