79th Post...the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The standings in the two groups at present, courtesy of Ciaran. A few things in the mix still:
- some players have many games to play yet. Some are finished their group stage.
- some players with injuries have, or may have to drop out.
- all players are improving and newer players are getting the hang of it.
- the impact of an audience adds an extra dimension.
- the top four in each group will contest the finals. No 4 will play No. 1. No. 2 will play No. 3 in the opposite groups in the quarter finals.
With the better weather the Single Competition Matches are running very smoothly. Many players are almost finished their quota of games well ahead of schedule. The following photos are from a few of the games last week.
Recently Sean J had the company of his son John, playing casually. John is an avid reader of the blog....Well done John! Not sure who won !!
Owen Kelleher from the Irish Petanque Association, by arrangement through Michael Dolan, called out last Wed. 2nd June to chat with committee members and a couple of other players who were down playing casually.
He brought and demonstrated some training equipment and left them with us. He also brought along a small skills manual. We will introduce them to the society shortly.
He advised us about the I.P.A. and their role and he did a question/answer session around some rules.
We will advise regarding these also shortly.
We played a couple of games then, where he talked through the games strategically for our benefit. He was happy to be invited and was impressed with the facility.
Unfortunately, there is an element in society that by their actions show their disrespect of the efforts of communities and will not be boundaried by the norms of social etiquette......
Thankfully there are others who think otherwise and only wish the perpetrators were the ones repairing the damage.
Recently a Garda was spotted talking to a group at the benches. Whether they were notified or were just making their presence felt it is a welcome development.
