64th Post....Couples who play together......

Congratulations to Vivienne and Nigel winners over Michael and Ciaran in the inaugural B.B.C Matchplay Competition.  Without a Bye they dispatched redoubtable competitors en route to their win.

Vivienne, in particular, a relative newcomer to the game proved to be [with daily practice! ] a perfect foil for Nigel in pursuit of their various victories.

A good number of spectators attended many of the matches including the final.  The competition, at Gerry's suggestion, provided the perfect solution to the Covid restrictions as the games involved small playing numbers and were played at casual, agreed times.  Players and spectators alike wore masks and socially distanced.

There were some intriguing fixtures and surprise results and while we might tinker with the format, to permit more games for each team, before the knockout stage, the Matchplay is here to stay.

It will prove to be a great social binder between the playing groups as we progress and develop under the Bayside Boules Community banner.

Out thanks to Ciaran for managing the App / Fixture sheet and the buying of the lovely Trophy and voucher for  the local eatery La Gustosa.

Our thanks to Tom B and Tom D. scorekeepers, measurers, umpires, referees and butts of gentle banter!

Tom...ad-libbing, off script...again!

The Finalists

Vivienne receiving the inaugural perpetual trophy.

Nigel accepting the La Gustosa voucher.

The well-behaved spectators applauding all good play.

In the thick of the action....

Monday 19th

Based on this weather forecast at 9.00 a.m. Tom cancelled the formal boules competition.  The forecast proved to be somewhat inaccurate and a good number of players gathered to play casual boules while the expected rain didn't materialise.  As a committee we had agreed that a call had to be made in time for players living a distance away to change travel plans.
Officially 'Winter' as Charlie abandons the shorts!

Sat. Oct 17th

We had  visitors from Donabate Breda, Jim and Carolyn who were interested in seeing the facility in Alden Park and play a game to familiarise themselves with the sport.  They would like to have a similar instalation in the Donabate region  and are drawing up a proposal to that end.

Both Groups had very enjoyable morning play followed by the last semi-final where Michael and Ciaran managed to defeat Par and Chris to progress to the final on Sunday.  We welcomed Catherine from the St. Anne's Group who was trying out the facility.

The Park is being used more than ever by various groups -  Children's Soccer; Adult Yoga and Fitness; Bayside Boules;dog walking; the Daily Mile by the school population and a more recent phenomenon.......Picnicking........

Watch this space for further updates on the continued upgrade of the park......
