Happy Christmas and Health and Happiness for 2026

 
December was its usual quiet self with competition and play winding down.  The final reckoning for the Saturday Competition took place on Saturday 20th December where the top eight players played in a random doubles pairing with the winners progressing to the semis where another random pairing occurred.  The final was contested by the winning pair.
Pat Ryan and Larry Breheny beat Dirk Starz and Nigel O'Mahony in one quarter final and Joan Maher and Vivienne O'Mahony defeated Hamed Sako and Michael Dolan in the other.  The Semi Final pairings led to Joan and Larry defeating Pat and Vivienne.  The final singles pairing were Joan versus Larry. Larry managed a victory over Joan who had played commendably well throughout the competition.  
Congratulations to Larry.



Our thanks to all the participants throughout the season and the valiant souls who braved the elements to spectate or officiate for the finals.

Winter Solstice Cancellation:
Due to the orange weather forecast later on Sat 20th it was necessary to cancel the event which was widely advertised over the Bayside Social Media.


The BBC AGM for 2026 is due on Monday 19th from 7pm in the Community Centre Library. Please submit motions for discussion by the 13th January.

Let any member of the current committee know if you'd like to be considered for committee should a position become available or created.

 Matchplay 2025; Ciarán's Matchplay has completed the Round Robin series and is now in the Knockout phase.  The pairs, selected by Ciarán, have proven to be very even with almost all games going to the third end in the qualifying stage. The quarter-final pairings are being decided at present and all bets are off!  The games are well attended and great entertainment is on offer in the late evening sunshine.  Pétanque Sligo visitors: Eventually Pétanque Sligo managed to visit Bayside Boules on Sat May 3rd.  They travelled by train and DART and were picked up by Bayside club members and transported to the pistes.  They had the use of the Bayside school toilet which was a great bonus. 147th Post ..... All Geared Up

Upcoming in 2025 Singles Matchplay completion by Christmas. Regular play most days as usual, weather permitting. Saturday Competition until quarter end. Yule Boules on a weekend day in December [Stand alone event] day/date TBD. Christmas Lunch on Wed. Dec 3rd  at 2pm in the Elphin.  Book via the  poll on the App. Thursday Boules: What a turnout today 06-11-25 on a beautiful morning.  Eighteen playing in bright sunshine on an unseasonably warm day.  New trialists arriving and prospective new members including a French lady! Monday play: Monday play continues with players using the non-competitive games to try out the skill of 'shooting' in particular.  Since we were used to the 10 am start we've continued with the early start.  In and around eighteen players most Monday mornings.  With our numbers playing most mornings we are probably the most active club on the island. 141st Post: BBC goes Marching On....

 Monday Competition: With two weeks of Competition remaining very little separates the top three.  Chris is in pole position with Sean J and John O'C in close pursuit.  Maureen Deane is the top lady at present. By the time you're reading this the penultimate round will have been played and things might have changed.  All to play for. Maintenance Work: On account of the unseasonably nice weather we decided to treat the surroundings and display panel with wood preserving stain. A bulletin went out and over three afternoons the boundaries, display board, flower beds and benches got treated and even labelled.  The crew are in the following photos.  Many thanks to all involved especially James, whose persistence paid off!.  The place looks great for ourselves and visitors.
