104th Post. Matchplay Madness in Wonderful Weather

MATCHPLAY

The wonderful weather has caused a flurry of matchplay madness.  Items of clothing are being discarded, lotion applied, wide-brimmed hats and sun shades sported and some serious Boules are being attempted!
A full week of competition is behind us already and Ciaran's sophisticated masterpiece of logical logistics is coming into its own again churning out the stats you see below -

Next week's fixtures as notified so far.  Each player has four games to play in this phase by Sunday April 10th

The Standings in Groups 1 and 2 to date.

The fixtures in Groups 1 and 2 played [greyed out] and the fixtures remaining to be played.  The system is working well with fixtures arranged off the Matchplay App and the only fixtures and results being sent in.  As soon as I see them I enter them, though you may not see that in real time.

Let me say that while I'm involved in the data entry, to alleviate some of Ciaran's workload, he is the mastermind behind the adaptive computations / algorithms / formulae or HARD SUMS as Tom B calls them!
Keep those fixtures and scores pouring in like the rain that's due!

IRISH PETANQUE NATIONAL SINGLES

Speaking of Ciaran, he represented himself and, by extension, the B.B.C. in the national singles competition in Bushy Park on Saturday 26th.   He acquitted himself admirably among the cream of the Petanque talent in Ireland.  One of his victories was against an eventual semi-finalist.  His brief report noted that he played some brilliant shots; some average and a couple of bad ones.  [ the reverse of most of us!]

You need to have all the shot making skills along with the tactical nous to perform at this stage. He is getting there and no doubt will represent us to even greater honours in the future.  Well done, Ciaran.

His 'wingman' Tom D didn't even make it to the spectacle, to make a spectacle of himself, as he was laid low with a respiratory infection for a few days previously.

Some photos from Ciaran of the day bears witness to the magnificent weather and the concentration of the players -

WHERE POLITICS MEETS PETANQUE

Can you imagine Monsieur Macron or Marine Le Pen dropping down to their local park to hone their Petanque skills with the proletariat?
Well perhaps through the good auspices of our own Lady of the Pistes - Joan M ..... a very dapper 'influencer' happened among us a couple of days ago.
I'll tell ye now lads - no more votin' across party lines or wearin' shorts and T-shirts at the Boules!!
[ Ciaran got permission to use the photos....not so sure about the shlaggin'!]

Judging by the form Richard's showing he'd be a welcome addition to the community group.  Of course Joan shows her true form every outing and Sean never wastes and opportunity to photobomb!
Who mentioned the possibility of a covered stadium with seating and a member's bar??

ST PATRICK'S DAY

After Lockdowns and Covid hysteria only a couple remembered what to be doing on St. Patrick's Day!
Imagine managing to get their boules to finish in the shape of a shamrock........some shapers those two!

 MATCHPLAY COMMENCED FOR 2022

Shortly afterwards there were tears of joy and the other sort.  Michael showed Tom D how it's done!
