86th Post....Group Play Restart....

Monday 19th July 2021 saw the restart, after months of covid-19 restrictions, of the Group Play.

Group A recommenced with Week 9 of 12 weeks.  We had 8 players on a lovely morning [ the start of a heat wave ].

Reminder:  We play a max of 3 games each session.  If you manage to start a 4th game it won't count to your total for the day.  We draw cards for the partners to play doubles but occasionally you might be playing singles, depending on numbers.  Your best 24 game total out of a possible 36 games makes allowance for absences and some lower scores.  The positions at this point reflect the number of games played as much as the quality of play.  There are 3 more Monday competition days in this session.

The welcome heat wave last week saw many players on holidays and some finding the temperatures, even early in the morning in the absence of shelter, too oppressive.  The temperatures are due to abate tomorrow so we hope we will be able to continue play.

Covid-19 has been the big winner of the Tom Walsh Trophy so far but we hope to rectify this situation in the near future!

Our most recent timetable is below ensuring there is play both casual and organised on most days over the period.  The next Matchplay Competition will run concurrently with the Group play.  Any new players will be directed towards a new Group C.

A message from Owen Kelleher [ Irish Petanque Association ] who did the coaching session with us:

Hello Tom, what fantastic weather for Petanque!. Bushy park are hosting an Open Invite Doubles on Saturday 7th August. We would love to see some doubles teams from Bayside take part. Entry is €5 per person. There will be trophies, medals and spot prizes on the day. Can you please let your members know. The closing date for entries is Saturday 31st July. Thanks,
Owen

If anybody is interested please contact Tom D and if you have arranged a partner then great...if not, we'll try to organise one for you.  I don't know the timeframe yet but you'd probably need to devote most of the day.  Please let me know by Wednesday next if interested.

Also, in early August, we hope to have our Top Eight singles from BBC play an Eight from St. Anne's Park Wednesday boules Group on an agreeable date.  Thereafter we will play a group from Bushy Park later in the month.
