50th Post… Judgement Day…

“There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.”

11 rounds of pétanque competition have yielded some dizzying highs, a few depressing lows and at (almost!) all junctures, pistes full of smiles, banter and general bonhomie. Our inaugural league has been a wonderful success and it’s great to be able to enjoy a few games each week with some new and not so new neighbours.

As the league has worn on, we’ve all noticed a good natured competitive instinct kicking in so now is as good a time as any to have a look at some stats of interest:

So, who needs to do what I hear you ask? 🤔

Tom D heads into Round 12 at the top of the leader board. To mathematically guarantee victory he will need to register a score of 38. For the players sitting in positions 2 through 7, things are a little more complicated. If we assume Tom D doesn’t best his currently counted 8th score of 22, each player has the following target to go ahead of Tom D and be in the mix to raise the trophy:

Of course, we’re all playing against each other as well as Tom D so the permutations are endless but if you don’t catch Tom D, you definitely can’t win! It’s also important to remember that if Tom D bests his weakest score of 22, everyone else also needs to score higher than the targets shown above. The last great unknown is whether Tom D’s randomly drawn playing partner will actually want to help him win or not… it could become a truly Machiavellian day! 😂

I’m looking forward to seeing some seriously brisk games taking place tomorrow morning as slow and steady won’t be getting anyone to 30+ points! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

In other news, the regular Wednesday and Saturday games took place during the week and I’ve included some pictures from Saturday below.

Tom takes the high road...

Charlie takes the low road.

Agnes let's one fly.

The bad kind of locked... 🔒🍺
