 Tom Walsh Trophy

As promised......Pat with the trophy....

Next iteration of the Tom Walsh Trophy, with the Monday and Saturday pathways, is due for completion shortly.  Reminder, that the top four from both days qualify for the final elimination rounds.  If you qualify both days you remain where your highest score is earned and the next highest ranked player on that day moves up to replace you.

Summer Time:
Unusually fine weather brought us out in our summer finery..and to celebrate Joan's birthday.

Ongoing Maintenance.
Thanks in particular to Tom B, Sharyon and Sean J for their ongoing attention to the flower beds particularly in this dry spell.

The IPA Irish Mixed Doubles are shared between BBC and St. Anne's on Sunday June 7th.
Two pistes in St. Anne's needed attention as they are rarely used.  We got them cleared of grasses and weeds and the Park Super. has said he will deliver extra top dressing shortly.  We might need a few helpers next week to spread the grit out on Piste 3 and 4.
We will also need some volunteers to set up in Alden Park and St Anne's from 9 a.m. on Sun. 7th.  More details later.....

IPA Single Finals in Bayside on Sun 17th May 2026:

BBC hosted the Singles Finals in Alden Park.  Thanks to all the members who assisted with the set up and dismantling afterwards.  Alos, thanks to some of the 'elite' players who stayed on to assist. Thanks to Gertie through whose auspices we had the school toilet available.  Otherwise we could not host events.  Sariff Antooaroo, from Park Pétanque Club was expectedly the winner displaying his full range of skills to the appreciative audience.
We had the new IPA Umpire David Rolland in attendance and his trainee Dermott Carroll. Even experience players were getting yelow cards !!!
Vik, who came 3rd in the competition has recently joined BBC.  We hope that, along with Kessen they will be able to play more often with us.

Visit of Malahide Pétanque Club Tuesday 12th May 2026:

We hosted MPC in Alden Park and on this occasion we managed a victory over the 4 games.  The games were played in good spirit and we had a nice array of sandwiches, tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards.

Visit of Bath Pétanque Club to Ireland with BBC hosting their first games before they headed to Marlay, Bushy, Cavan and Belfast on their week-long trip.
We managed to have 28 players against their 14.  We each played two games while they play all four timed games.
They were good players but we managed to eke out a victory and afterwards we had an exchange of gifts.  We presented our local HOPE Beer presentation packs and they reciprocated with pennants and pin badges. Our first international game!!

The Celtic Challenge was held in Cork in early May. Format for a home venue is 8 triples teams from the  host nation and 4 teams from each of the other home nations.
Ireland proved too strong.  The weather was very 'iffy' but, except fot a short break, they played through the elements.  Some pistes were level with fine, round pebbles while others were similar to Bayside.  One, in particular, was on a slope.  They just got on with play.  The Gala/Presentation Dinner was held on the Sunday night.
