139th Post: Great numbers for start of 2025....the New Pistes being well used.

N.B.    Our thoughts and prayers are with those indisposed at present.

BBC AGM - Monday 13th Jan in the Bayside Community Centre from 7:30 p.m.:

Twenty three members attended and the business-like meeting discussed the progress of last year and plans for 2025.  The Committee [ Chris / Chair; Ciarán / Treasurer and Match Sec. ; Tom D / Sec; Anne D and Dirk were re-elected en masse and wished well in our plans for the coming year.  Ciarán had slides for each aspect of the meeting which were projected onto a screen for the attendees.  We noted that we would ask for support for events as required. Some outcomes:

  • €20 membership fee continuing in 2025
  • Payment of IPA Membership/Insurance at full rate this year
  • Quarterly Competition to continue.
  • Matchplay and Club Competitions to be reinstated on gradual basis
  • Grants: Capital and Current being applied for
  • Social Boules in various guises to continue e.g. Friday Nights in Summer etc.
  • Primary and Secondary school links to be expanded
  • Open Days and Community Events to introduce others to the game
  • Home and Away Events
  • Engagement with more IPA events
  • Selection of Club Gear
  • Suggestion from Hamed of a Health and Safety Policy

Saturday Morning Boules 25-01-25:

Storm Éowyn relented after battering the country the previous day to permit play.  We were dressed for every eventuality but the morning turned out to be bright and warm for our period of play.  10:30 to 11:00 for practice and 11:00 to 13:00 for games.  We had a very creditable 21 players in action.

The previous Saturday was equally well attended on another beautiful morning..........

Sligo Pétanque:
Sligo Pétanque held there annual dinner recently and our Hope Brewery gifts made a surprise visit!!
Sligo will visit us in the first half of 2025 following our unavoidable cancellation of their return visit last year.  They have been in touch and are looking forward

Home and Away BBC Events in 2025:

Other Home and/or Away visits will be to Seapoint, Cabinteely, Griffeen [Lucan], Cavan and possibly one or two others.  We will have IPA competitions for some of our members also, across the year.  Final details after the IPA AGM on Sat. 22nd February.  We may have Events like Open Days; Parent/Grandparent/child event; Business Houses blitz; and liaison with the schools.

N.B.: The IPA have requested that BBC might host two events this year:
'Would the Bayside Club be interested in hosting both the IPA Mixed Doubles (Sat. 24th May) and the IPA Ladies Double (Sun. 27th July)?'....... if numbers and space allow.  We hope to be in a position to do so.  Sylver was impressed with our facility and hosting of the recent Cavan Pétanque Club in Alden Park.

Night time Boules:

A group of players from Park Petanque [Bushy Park] have, on occasion, used our facility, under lights for short periods.  They are some of the best players in Ireland currently.  We hope to avail of their expertise over the year.  Watch this space.

Weekday Boules:

Weekday Boules continues unabated with the new pistes being used regularly to bed them in and allow members to experience different surfaces.
20 players this Monday for competition......plus more players 'shooting' which is great to see.

Jim D was the only player to amass the magic 3 x 13 in the three ends this morning.  Congrats Jim.  Jim and a few others play most mornings of the week and it shows in the consistency of their play.

Training Video:

Refresher YouTube video courtesy of Pétanque England ...good for pointers and shooters.
