125th Post: Expansion meeting with Fingal Co.Co.


Update on Extension to Boules Facility:

Ciaran and Tom met with officers from Fingal County Council and local Councillor Aoibhinn Tormey on Tuesday at noon.   This was a follow-up meeting subsequent to our representations on behalf of Bayside Boules for an extension to the playing area for Boules with attendant paths and seating.

Barring unforeseen circumstances we hope to have two new pistes installed in next year's Fingal budget allocation [2024] . If approved in the Council's Budget meetings next February works should start before the summer.  The additional pistes will be wheelchair accessible and the furniture likewise.  Metre-wide access paths will be included and the possibility of some seating looking onto the play areas.  The signage will be upgraded.  Should our playing numbers expand in the future they may look favourably on any additional proposal.

The upgraded facility will allow us to :

  • Expand our existing group numbers
  • Host visiting clubs more easily e.g. Malahide and Cavan etc.
  • Cater for more players e.g. Friday Night Boules
  • Provide more play space for Bayside Primary School
  • Organise local Inter-Firm competition [ in the pipeline ]
Our thanks to the Tuesday Group who welcomed a few extra players today.  It was an impressive scene for our visitors and Evelyn and Joan arrived to support the community effort.  Great to see Shay today, also.  We had 24 + on the pistes.





Bayside School Use:

Bayside school has started to use the timetabled slots.  Today, unfortunately after the Site Meeting, two classes arrived to play on the pistes.   The 30+ players were using the equipment we provided last year.

When we have 6 pistes a full class can be easily catered for with all pupils playing for the entire slot.

Without specific permissions we could not take a photo today but it was impressive to see the facility being used intergenerationally.

Ciaran has been in touch with the Principal and P.E. Co-ordinator in the Senior School.  We have offered to tutor the staff in the rules and organisation of their classes.  Hopefully they will avail of the offer as we can not deal directly with the pupils.

The hope is that the pupils playing will generate interest among themselves, their parents and grandparents and bolster Bayside Boules going forward.

Monday Competition:  

The next set of Group A Competition has commenced.

127th Post: 2024 - The Year of Bayside Boules

Some of the Committee will be meeting an officer of Fingal, Janette Scott in early January  with a view to gleaning advice and support for the future development of Bayside Boules.  Monday Competition: This is the penultimate table with Ciarán in the lead.  Chris could technically have stolen the title had he been able to play on the final Monday and Ciarán was to lose all his games.  Unfortunately, he was unable to play and Ciarán won on merit anyway on the final Monday.   He also beat Tom Buckley's record of 20 'Thirteens' in a competition.  He retains the trophy which we will present formally at the first session of the next round of competition.  Congratulations Ciarán!! Unusually we didn't lose any Monday to inclement weather.  Also, we wish Joan all the best with her continuing recovery and will be delighted to see her back in action in 2024.  All the best to any other of pour members who are indisposed over this Christmas. 130th Post - Officially now Bayside Boules Club

Condolences :  BBC has offered the condolences of the Club to the O'Callaghan family on the sad loss of Clodagh who with her husband, Andy, played with the original players before her illness struck.  Many of our players knew her personally and our Monday session has been cancelled as a mark of respect. R.I.P. Clodagh. IGM:  Our Inaugural Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 2nd March at 7pm in the Bayside Community Centre.  The outgoing ad-hoc committee [ Tom D, Ciarán, Agnes, charlie O'D, Eileen D, Chris G, Nigel, John O'C, Tom B ]  put a lot of work since late 2019 to date and for the organisation of this meeting and were delighted with the positive response and turn out.  In order to avail of an supports offered by Fingal Public Participation Network [ Fingal PPN].  All attendees had paid the €20 subscription to the new Bayside Community Club which included the membership of the Irish Petanque Association [IPA] and their insurance cover.  Any players wishing to p

124th Post: The Ladies are closing in.....

  Monday Competition Group A: Ciarán won the third quarter Singles Monday Competition 2023.  Congratulations Ciarán. Tom Buckley the previous winner, who incidentally has the record of 20 x 13s in a single league in the last iteration,  presented Ciarán with the trophy before play today in the first game of the new Competition.  While Ciarán won the competition he noted that Agnes was 2nd; Maureen 3rd and Mary was 4th.  The ladies are truly closing in........ Fourteen played today in dull but dry conditions.  All played with three boules each with one singles match each time frame.  More people are 'shooting' now which will improve our standards going forward. The weather may have been dull but the play certainly wasn't !
