 Matchplay Final

Mary and Chris Grehan won the Doubles Matchplay. They were randomly drawn together by Ciarán's tracker but took full advantage and have a trophy each for the mantlepiece until the next doubles competition.

Congratulations to both and all those who took part without ultimate success.  There were great games on the way to the final and most were well attended courtesy of the WhatsApp Group, administered by Ciarán.

Winners!

The Mike Deegan Memorial Event in St. Anne's Park on Friday 28th July.

Nigel, the previous winner of the trophy, stepped aside and organised a wonderful event in honour of Mike.  26 players from both St.Anne's and Bayside Boules took part.  Everyone played three, timed games and the total score for each player, combined, gave the individual result.  On this occasion Tom Donnellan was the winner and gratefully accepted the trophy from Nigel. The mixing of players for each game was successful and social and the weather proved to be seasonably kind.

Our thanks to the group who prepared the pistes in St. Anne's in the week prior to the event. John Campbell, Nigel O'Mahony, Catherine Andrews, Yvonne Reid, Tom Donnellan and later Larry Breheny and his Baldoyle crew.

Also, our thanks to the Parks Superintendent, Joe O'Reilly and his team who came and lopped the low branches over Piste 1 and 2 to permit lobbed boules to be thrown.

Cavan Away Trip:

Our first away trip is imminent.  The trip to Cavan Petanque Club, Belturbet, following their long-standing invitation, is fixed for Sunday 20th August.  We have c. 20 players going by bus and automobiles.  We have our identifying caps bought from Dunnes Stores and we're raring to go!

Looking for a local item to gift to our hosts Ciarán suggested talking to Hope Brewery at Howth Junction.  They were delighted to support and provided two gift packs of their premium product at cost.

The Irish Petanque Association:

Following extensive discussion the committee decided to link with the IPA whose Insurance cover will provide extra solace especially as we start to travel to other groups.  Our previous cover was under the umbrella of the Bayside Community Association but only for local activity.
The initial premium of €50 is an introductory offer that provides us with cover for any Boules-related activity.  This was paid from previous collections.
After that, the premium will rise and we will need to cover the cost in our annual sub. which spread over our current 54 members will not be too pricey for the peace of mind...under €10 for the insurance component.  Players will be able to enter any IPA event at reduced rates based on membership.
