132nd Post: Imminent Expansion to BBC

Monday Competition:

As we are halfway through the final iteration of this competition and the competition is hotting up.  As the weather improves so does the playing numbers.  The competition whets the appetite and adds an edge to the friendly proceedings.  When the new pistes arrive we will open up a weekly Competition to all interested players.

Saturday Coaching:
The Saturday 'half-hour', coaching has started before the 11:00 a.m. play.  If interested, please arrive ready to start before 10:30 out of courtesy to the organisers have already spent time raking and setting out the various activities.
Opportunities to develop Pointing, Shooting, Driving and Lobbing Skills are provided.  Good practice is promoted and players get an opportunity to do multiple, focused activities with a view to trying new skills and improving older ones.   Below: Ciarán demonstrating Shooting strategy.

Pétanque Promotion in Schools:
Tom, representing the IPA at a school installation in Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.  It was the brainchild of a French teacher in the school to teach French through sport.  Staff and Parents built the Piste and the younger pupils play leagues during term.

Friday Night Social Boules:
The Friday Night Social Boules is proving a great success again.  When we get the two new pistes we will be able to cater for greater numbers going forward.

Bushy Park Mixed Triples:
[Dirk, Maureen and Eileen] and [Tom, Sharyon and Terry] represented BBC at an event organised by Park Petanque Club [PPC] in Bushy Park.
On a beautiful day on a newly-laid surface we had a great experience.   We saw some great play, including from ourselves,  All teams played 3 timed games before lunch and one afterwards.  Then they segregated the teams into groups.  Our better team of Dirk, Maureen and Eileen performed very well and led the Bronze Group and took home the Bronze trophy.  Congratulations. A learning experience in terms of play, rules, protocols and strategies.

NB: UPDATE:
Ciarán and Tom met with the head of Fingal Operations and the Contractor at the pistes today.
The Contractor is the same company who installed the original pistes.  They asked what we wanted / needed and they outlined what was possible within the €30k budget.  Two parallel pistes to A and B with better wheelchair accessible paths and seating.

Current arrangement:

They said we can continue to use the existing pistes during construction but we will advise the Schools not to play during the building phase.  They hope to start in the first half of June and it should take under a week.  Thereafter, it will take a while for the pistes to settle so expect variation.
