143rd Post: BBC hosts the IPA Mixed Doubles.

 IPA Irish Mixed Doubles     Sat 24th May 2025: Our first opportunity to host and run an Irish Pétanque Event arrived on Saturday 24th May.  As there were originally 20 teams entered and since the Competition Secretary, Sylver Bréteché, preferred that no team would sit out the early rounds we decided to split the event between Alden Park [ 6 pistes ] and St.Anne's Park [ 4 pistes ]. As Sylver was unable to attend Ciarán offered to run the event with the 18 teams committed to the day.  12 teams were grouped to play in Alden and 6 teams went directly to St. Anne's Park to commence by 10:30 under Tom D's supervision. Both venues had much maintenance work done in advance both by members of BBC and with the input of Fingal Co Co [ Alden Park] and Dublin City Co. 142nd Post: Availing of the beautiful weather....

 Matchplay 2025; Ciarán's Matchplay has completed the Round Robin series and is now in the Knockout phase.  The pairs, selected by Ciarán, have proven to be very even with almost all games going to the third end in the qualifying stage. The quarter-final pairings are being decided at present and all bets are off!  The games are well attended and great entertainment is on offer in the late evening sunshine.  Pétanque Sligo visitors: Eventually Pétanque Sligo managed to visit Bayside Boules on Sat May 3rd.  They travelled by train and DART and were picked up by Bayside club members and transported to the pistes.  They had the use of the Bayside school toilet which was a great bonus. After the welcome sandwiches play started about 1:45 p.m.  They had 12 players and BBC had 18 available.  We split the pairs after each match on both sides with 6 BBC players sitting out for the first three rounds.  For round four BBC played Triples versus their Dou...
